Fishing Report for Captain Dave Kostyo

Captain Dave Kostyo was introduced to fishing by his uncle when he was 11 years old. After catching his first fish, he knew fishing was for him. Over the years, he honed his skills by catching fish from bridges and seawalls. He decided to expand his fishing expertise to include deep sea species fish; he started going out as an angler on party boats from Haulover Inlet, and eventually progressed to being a mate. Over the years, his love of fishing has not diminished. When asked that question by new clients, his reply is "You'll see I'm like a kid in a candy factory when we get a fish on."

Soon after buying a 25' custom built Whitewater that he named Knot Nancy, he obtained his Coast Guard Captain's License, established Knot Nancy Fishing Charters, and started taking out private charter groups. In time, he upgraded his boat to a 28' Whitewater, equipped with all the necessary electronics. As his fishing experience grew, Captain Dave was fortunate to acquire numerous sponsors: Whitewater Boats, Penn, Yamaha, Pure Fishing, and Eagle Claw. These sponsors ensure that his fishing 'tools' are diverse and plentiful.

Over the years, he has guided his clients to wins in numerous tournaments. He's been featured in Florida Sportsman and Sportfishing Magazines, and has written several articles for Florida Sportfishing Magazine. He's been featured on several TV Shows that include Tarpon Bay Tales, Sportfishing Magazine, Florida Sportsman, Mark Sosin's Saltwater Journal and Big Water Adventures. He loves to share his fishing knowledge and adventures with everyone and does numerous seminars throughout the South Florida area. Captain Dave enjoys teaching children about fishing, helping adults learn how to fish or hone their skills, and guiding his clients to the catch of a lifetime. Interested in more about Capt. 2017-01-28      Miami/Miami Beach, FL Fishing Report - Late January 2017

During the past three days the conditions off the Miami/Miami Beach coast have been less than ideal. We've had S/SW wind, green water with south current, green water with no current, and to find a blue edge, we've had to run out to over 700'. Despite these poor conditions, I've managed to produce some good action for my clients.

Tom and Justin fished with me for two (2) days. On day one (1) with green water, south wind, and south current we caught five (5) dolphin/mahi, four (4) amberjack, and one (1) large silky shark.

Day two (2) the wind picked up a bit starting in the south and ending in the SW. The water was still green and the current died off to none. Fishing was a little tougher and by day's end we had three (3) mutton snapper, one (1) amberjack, and one (1) hammerhead shark.

The next day was a half day trip with Brandon, Noah, Michael, and Mitch. Green water, no current and SW/W wind were the conditions. We started off dropping on wrecks and caught three (3) amberjacks. Live bait drifting produced no action. We moved offshore a bit and found a weed line in 450'. Slow trolling live pilchards produced a schoolie size dolphin/mahi. We ran back south down the weed line and set up again with slow trolling. At 10 minutes before the end of the trip, we had a double hook up of larger dolphin/mahi. We landed both fish and back at TNT Marine Center, the bull weighed in at 16 pounds and the cow tipped the scale to 23 pounds.
